I like a few things about it.
I am glad someone finally handed in a pencil sketch! The pencil shows up just aswell as ink and saves time with getting sketches handed in. I like the letter shapes and overall composition of the piece. I 'm feeling the heavy weight of the bottom of the 'E'. Overall this looks lke a real fun piece to paint, the letters are strong and have a lot of character. I will over-lap the outline in areas, just as you have drawn in the sketch.. that reminds me of some FBA sort of steez... Word Up..
Well where do I begin? I thought doing one of these Persue sketches would turn out to be a fun experience,
but in actuality the whole experience turned out to be a real headache! I went out at night to a LA river
underpass with Revok, Sever, Detr and Pysa. Revok was working on the sketch drawn for him by Sever
and everyone else was just rocking up there own thing. The night started off really chill. This under pass
was the home of a little bum village and within close distance to this loft space warehouse. Some horrible
rock band was rehearsing these out of tune whining melodies and Revok was singing along. The underpass
is along this freight line which runs right above the LA river. We were casually painting for a few hours.
Occasionally we hid from the few freights that passed on the line . Revok finished first and I finished shortly after.
While we were waiting for everyone else to finish Revok was walking around catching tags and I was
playing around with these stars on my piece. A long freight line had rolled past and stopped under the underpass.
We continued to paint and felt completely relaxed.
About 5 minutes after the freight had stopped , two cops jumped from in between freight cars pointing a gun at Pysa.
One of the cops had yelled real loud "Freeze Asshole!!"... Once I heard that shit I immediately jumped off the
side wall to the left of my piece. Sever , Pysa, and myself slid down the slanted concrete hill and ran right into
the river. Revok and Deter took off running down the freight tracks away from the cops. As we ran into the river we
hid around the blind side of this wall out of site of the police. We saw their flashlights looking around for us, but we were
well hidden behind this wall in the river. That river is so fucking disgusting! We were standing in about two feet of
running water. I wanted to cross the river, but these guys were convinced that the current was too strong and would
sweep us down stream... I didn't give a fuck.. I had seen this bum cross it about an hour prior. We ended up standing
in the river for about two hours waiting for the cops to leave... When we got out we were able to see that the cops dissed
all of our pieces with the cans that dropped in the chase. Revok and Detr ended up running to the other side of town
and eventually caught up with us a while after... Shit was a really wack night... I had to throw out my sneakers because
they smelled so bad.
Going back to fix the piece was really discouraging! I just covered all the mess and messages with a fat cap and
tried my best to redraw the outline from memory.. If you look at the two versions you can see some changes that
happened unintentionally. The police can suck a dick.. but for some reason I like the dissed version better then
the cleaned version....
Oh well...
Glad to see you got around to my outline for The Exchange... It's even better you put your ass on the line to make it happen. I like the happy faces on the dissed one, but the "fuck gangs" comment is all time....hahaha!
This version of 'sketch 1' was painted in Hollywood along with Ewok and Revok. Since I had already done Persue's 'sketch2' and had that behind me, I felt free to take 'sketch 1' and experiment with the whole style. I wanted to take the outline to the wall and approach it as my starting point. I used the base structure and composition but tried to make the piece more fluid and with more attitude. Some people get on me for overdoing pieces with too many action lines and shit... I am still not sure if I over did this one a bit. Rusto is a real pain in the ass when trying to outline technical pieces!
