I write Serch and I live in a town an hour up north from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I started writing in September 1985 after Style Wars was broadcasted on national television. That same night I did
my first sketch.
In the beginning I painted mostly in my hometown until the Amsterdam subway-scene started blowing up in the late 80's / early 90's. First it was only the Amsterdam guys that hit them
but not long after that everybody started bombing them which kinda opened my eyes. Although it wasn't until we formed the NES-crew in late 1992 that I actually started to mainly focus on our nation's capitol.
After doing that for 2 or 3 years straight I began to travel throughout the whole country and eventually ended up painting in Belgium, France, Denmark, Germany and NYC
My main influences are (most of) the NYC (subway) writers from
every generation, the Paris-Amsterdam graffiti from 1984 until 1989 and some of the Berlin styles from the mid 90's. They already did what I was also trying at that time; rockin’ New York styles with their own personal touch.
I find every style of graffiti just as important (block letters,
throw ups, wild styles...) because -in my opinion- as a writer you
have to go through the various stages to become really good;
it starts with a handstyle and ends with a (semi) wild style!
On that note; to me the handstyle is the most interesting part of graffiti since it's the most personal form of writing. You can even tell when a writer is really talented just by looking at his tag, because when a writer's handstyle is sloppy, nine times out of ten his pieces have the same lack of quality.View Personal Work >
